Ohio State Highway Patrol Releases Video Of Trooper Being Struck

OHS Trooper Brent Hill was critically injured when he was hit by an out of control driver in icy condition on I-75 February of 2013. Ohio State Patrol is releasing the video in hopes of promoting driver awareness. Ohio law requires drivers to move over or slow down for emergency vehicles that are stopped on the highway. Trooper Hill was forced into retirement due to his injuries, and the driver was sentenced to 6 months and a $1000 fine.

Poor guy. I try my best to evade cops and speeding tickets, but something like this is just unfortunate.

PS-are Ohio Highway Patrol uniforms are reminiscent of SS uniforms, or is that just me?

First keeps stating how graphic and terrible the footage is, continues and seems bothered by ("there it goes") the footage of trooper being hit interrupting his story.. The disconnection between what he's saying and what's happening is absurd.

Might be me as "one of those weird EUropeAns, but (Local) 'Murican newsbroadcasting just seems strange to me.

Don't get me wrong, i feel for the trooper and everyone involved, but the way it is reported just weirds me out.

I think 'murican news and perhaps all kinds of broadcasting seems rather alien to all of us here in Europe.. It's like they care more about views and time on air than anything else.

Violence is so prevalent in American media that we are almost desensitized by it, so we have to overcompensate by pretending to be extremely worried/offended/shocked by it whenever it happens in real life, then of course exploit it for viewership. News media here is a joke. They should have included this as a very brief introduction to a segment on driving safely in the winter, but they go for the emotions and human interest story of the trooper instead of something that could actually save lives. Obviously not disregarding the horrible injuries the trooper suffered, but they just included this video for the viewership spike, not to inform.

I used to work for a company located in Eastbourne so I've spent a fair amount of time in the UK...always enjoyed it despite my speaking a foreign language. I learned to deal with that barrier :) and even learnt to shift gears with my left hand...and have owned a British car for 25 years, the current one since 1989.

Well... the UK is.. uhm, strange.. they drive on the wrong side of the road. Most of Europe drive on the right side aka the right side (that makes sense yeah?) But if you've spent some time in east sussex.. I bet you're somewhat familiar with the UK slang as well then?
